More than 50 year New York tv station Wpix Channel 11 has the " Yuletide Log" a burning fireplace with Chrismas songs. Some artists stole the idea from the television station and sold it as their own. Left of the tv monitor a postcard from the Bahamas and a mask made by Idi's students. Ziet er een beetje verwarrend uit - de foto, want alleen maar in dat glazen hok mag je roken. Die mensen daarachter zitten al in de niet rookzone. Zo met die "advertising" op die glazen hokken zijn ze toch nog in staat hun merkboodschap over te brengen, Winston Salem Camel, een oude familie, "Reynolds" uit Richmond Virginia, de grote concurrent van Philip Morris. In Amerika wordt er ook minder gerookt voor de gebouwen. Twee jaar geleden was ik in een bar- aan de bar en daar stonden wel 3 glazen met een bierfiltje erboven op, het moest wel tot me doordringen dat die klanten buiten stonden te paffen. In mijn nieuwe favoriete "bistro" in Antwerpen met wel aardige salades met heerlijk garnalen - dan proef je het verschil als die dingen niet ingevroren zijn zoals hier en in Holland - gaat de bartender, een jonge vrouw met hier en daar een knoert van een tatoe, naar buiten, 's middags ben ik bijna de enige klant en vraagt dan voordat ze gaat paffen of ik nog niets nodig heb. Ze is aardig en geeft me bijna altijd een glas van het huis.

De zo bewonderde stad aan de Moldau, de stad van Kafka en Smetana, van Dvorzak. Bommen zijn er niet of nauwelijks op gevallen. Maar de toeristen hebben de stad verwoest. Rijen en rijen. De Karelsbrug - misschien wel de mooiste brug in de wereld op de
Brooklyn Bridge na (maar die is meer dan 300 jaar jonger) - is totaal vervuild van rijen en rijen toeristen met rugzak op de rug en water in hand. Een soort waterbuffels. Bagage op de rug, water in de hand. Vreselijk. De "Verschmutsung" is meestal te wijten aan Nederlandse en Duitse backpackers. Nu denk je natuurlijk: dat je ook niet kan in een tourbus of in een tourboot, maar neen, die zijn voor minder dan de helft gevuld. De backpacker geeft geen geld uit. Zeker niet aan bezienswaardigheden die geld kosten. Die zijn niet het bezien waard. Nee, blijf thuis, koop een mooie dvd en geniet van de fabuleuze schitterende stad. Ja ik weet, ik heb wat gemist en daar zijn geen backpackers: de kubistische architektuur. We namen een tour met een boot en hebben een paar zeer fraaie voorbeelden gezien van deze unieke stijl. Te ver om met mijn iphone te fotograferen.

Foto genomen in een prachtig stadje genoemd Jindrichuv Hradec - een eind weg van Praag. Geen "buitenlandse" toeristen en ook geen lokale rugzakken, maar wel een slaperig stadje midden in het Tsjechische landschap met een mooie kerk en een kasteel en een toren van ongeveer 1000 jaar oud. Daar trouwden mijn vrienden Jana en Antoon.

"For inspiration purposes" my son jozias and I traveled to Florida - to see some spring trainig baseball (citrus league). We saw the Tigers, the Indians, the Yankees, the Rays in good baseball games. we saw a brawl where both teames cleared the benches. We saw many runs. And in between we saw some great art in Sarasota (Ringling Museum).

We do this since last october when we are in New York. More than 12 years we also cook 15 dozen large eggs- hard boiled
