Bill Kwist Garden, Bushwick New York. Bill kwam als Willem Kwist naar Amerika als bediende op een passagiersschip bij de Holland Amerika Line geloof ik. En droste. Werd later gearresteerd en dreigde gedeporteerd te worden. Een vriendin - een Joodse vrouw, nu 82, was bij de Memorial Service die gehouden werd vorige week in Bill's tuin - heeft gezorgd dat hij kon blijven. Later kon Bill met haar hulp het Amerikaanse staatsburgerschap aannemen. Bill was legaal blind, werd later ook nog doof. Hoe hij deze handicaps wist te bevechten en overwinnen is een wonder op zich.
